We stopped and took pictures of the main road into town - after we'd managed to clear our road of debris enough to drive the car. The road crew had come through about 7AM, and Mr Oro had actually cleaned the road one time, but needed to do it again before we could leave.

The other side of the road

We got electricity last Wednesday, phone, too. Btw, you should check with your electric company to find out who repairs what should lines go down, as you may need an electrician instead of the power company, ditto for the phone. Also, make sure you have a plug in phone in case you only otherwise use wireless, as they will not work once power goes out. Hopefully you have better cell reception than we do. Unfortunately we didn't know that in the US there are 3 electric lines to your house, 2x 110v and 1 neutral line. I can't go into the details about what does what, but should you lose your neutral line, what happens is that power surgers occur. Power surges kill things, like, for example, one's microwave. And furnace. Which one then has to replace/repair, and depending on your insurance deductible, well, it might be A Lot. Lesson learned, always throw your master breaker to OFF if you're leaving your house in bad weather. Ditto if you're using a generator (guess what's on our agenda besides that bleeding wood stove?), because what I didn't know and found out last night, was that once you start your generator, you can electrocute anyone working on the lines if you don't throw the master breaker to OFF, as power from the generator will then not only flow through your house, but down the power lines as well.
Next post, The Aftermath.
absolutely gorgeous! -- in a frightening sort of way.
